How do you convert your AIB bank statement to Excel?

An AIB bank statement downloaded from the AIB app or AIB Internet Banking goes into ExtractPro and comes back as an Excel file (.xlsx): one transaction per row, with the date, description and amount in separate columns (and the balance, when the statement shows it). AIB says “eStatements are in PDF format so you have the option of saving them locally on your PC, if you would like to maintain a file of your banking records at home”. On its site “AIB and AIB Group are registered business names of Allied Irish Banks, p.l.c.” and its help pages are at aib.ie.

  1. In the AIB app, log in and tap “Statements”.
  2. On the next screen, tap your “Account statements” or your “Statements of fees”.

FAQ

About AIB statements

01

Can I upload an AIB statement in PDF to ExtractPro?

Yes. AIB says “Your eStatement will be presented in Adobe PDF format; to view this you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader.” Save that PDF from the app or from Internet Banking and upload it unchanged: ExtractPro hands back a spreadsheet with a row for each transaction and amounts stored as numbers.

02

How far back can I get AIB statements?

AIB says “With effect from 30th November 2011, all newly issued bank account eStatements on AIB Internet Banking will be available to view for up to 7 years” and “Bank account eStatements issued prior to 30th November 2011 will continue to be available for a maximum of two years”. Each statement you download goes through ExtractPro on its own.

03

What limits does AIB give for exporting transactions and for business statements?

On personal accounts the AIB help text reads “Historical Transactions enables you to export your transactions to a CSV (Comma Separated Variable) file.” and “Historical Transactions can display transactions from two years ago up to the previous business day.” For iBusiness Banking its statements page says “Statements will display the last 6 months or a maximum of 180 days of transactions on IBB.” and “If you require duplicate statements, please contact your branch.” and “When printing your statement from iBB, the address is not included.” Its export page says “NB: While there will be six months of information available to export, you can only export a maximum three months at a time.”

How do I convert an AIB bank statement to Excel?

To convert an AIB bank statement to Excel, download the statement from the AIB app or AIB Internet Banking and upload it to ExtractPro: you get back an .xlsx with one transaction per row, the date, description and amount in separate columns (and the balance, when the statement shows it), and every amount stored as a number. AIB says “Your eStatement will be presented in Adobe PDF format; to view this you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader.” and “You can find your previous seven years of statements here.” A statement that an accountant or a client has sent you goes through the same way.
