Barclays calls its statements Online Statements and lists them under My Barclays documents, with a second way in through Statements and documents. What follows covers the routes in Online Banking and in the app, the PDF icon that saves a statement, the periods Barclays gives, and how they sit beside what HMRC asks you to keep.

Where Barclays keeps them

Barclays’ page on Online Statements gives the web route as “Log into Online Banking”, “Under your profile, go to ‘My Barclays documents’” and “Select a document from any account to view, download and print it”. The app route is “Open the app and tap ‘Help/More’”, “Choose ‘Statements’” and “Select any document to view, download and print it”. Seven years, or five once the account is closed

Barclays sets two periods on its page about how long statements can be viewed: “If you receive Online Statements, you can view them online for up to 7 years, as long as the account is still open.” and “If you've closed an account, but still bank with us, statements for that account will be available for up to 5 years.” A third page says where the electronic copies begin: “We have automatically uploaded electronic copies of your statements from July 2013.” Source: Barclays, how long Online Statements can be viewed, www.barclays.co.uk/help/accounts/statements-balances/how-long-view-online/, and viewing Online Statements, www.barclays.co.uk/help/accounts/statements-balances/how-can-i-view-online-statements-/, accessed 10 October 2026.

The five years HMRC names

HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) tells the self-employed on GOV.UK: “You must keep your records for at least 5 years after the 31 January submission deadline of the relevant tax year.” The five years Barclays quotes for a closed account and the five years HMRC quotes are counted from different starting points, so a statement for a closed account is worth saving while it is still online. Frequently asked questions

From which date does Barclays hold electronic copies of statements?

Does a closed Barclays account keep its statements online?

Barclays says “If you've closed an account, but still bank with us, statements for that account will be available for up to 5 years.” The condition is that you still bank with it.

Where do the amounts in the Barclays workbook come from?

From the PDF you upload. ExtractPro writes each amount as a number in its own column and adds the balance when the statement shows it.
