How to download an HSBC UK bank statement

HSBC UK statements: the Statements link in online banking, the PDF, the 6 years HSBC UK says you can view, and the Excel (xls) or csv from the transactions list.

HSBC UK keeps your statements behind the Statements link in online banking and behind View statements in its Mobile Banking app, and it treats a transaction file as a separate download. The sections below follow the route in each place, the PDF, the six years HSBC UK says you can look back, and the Excel (xls) or csv option, and then what to do with the PDF.

The route in online banking and in the app

HSBC UK’s page on getting a bank statement lists four lines for online banking: “Log on to online banking”, “Select 'Statements' in quick links”, “Select your account” and “Select the statement date to download and view”. For the app it gives “Log on to the HSBC UK Mobile Banking app”, “Select the account you want to view a statement for”, “Tap 'View statements'” and “Select the month you want to view the statement for”. 1. 1Log on to online banking.
  2. 2Select Statements in quick links.
  3. 3Select your account.
  4. 4Select the statement date to download and view.
  5. 5In the HSBC UK Mobile Banking app, select the account, tap View statements and select the month.

The file HSBC UK describes

On the file itself the page is direct: “You can download a statement in the mobile banking app or online banking in PDF format – to share purposes or print at home.” It repeats the point in a second line, “Use mobile or online banking to download statements as PDFs to share or print at home.” That PDF is the file to upload to ExtractPro. Six years back, and an annual statement

On how far back to look, the page says “You can view old statements up to 6 years back in online or mobile banking.” Its opening line gives the same figure: “Use the HSBC UK Mobile Banking app or online banking to check your transactions or access up to 6 years of statements.” Two more lines concern what HSBC UK issues: “We will always issue an annual statement, even if your account is inactive.” and “We don't issue stamped and signed paper statements, as the digital version is just as valid.” Source: HSBC UK, How to get a bank statement, www.hsbc.co.uk/help/banking-made-easy/online-statements/, accessed 10 October 2026.

Excel (xls) or csv from the transactions list

HSBC UK separates the statement from a transaction download: “You can download digital statements in a PDF format. We do offer other file formats, such as Excel (xls) or csv, but this will need to be done via your transactions list.” The four steps it gives are “Choose the account you wish to download the transactions for”, “Select ‘Search and filter’ and set the date range, amount and/or keyword”, “Scroll down to the bottom of the transaction list and click ‘Download’” and “Choose the format for your download and select ‘Continue’”. The page gives no period for that list, whereas the statements carry the six years above. From the HSBC UK PDF to Excel

Save the PDF as HSBC UK produced it and upload it to ExtractPro. An .xlsx comes back with a line for each transaction, the date, description and amount each in a column of their own, amounts that are numbers, and the balance as well when the statement shows it. If the file asks for a password, type it at the upload; it is opened in your browser.

Afterwards, hold the closing balance in the workbook up against the one on the last page of the statement, and count the rows against the transactions listed there. The HSBC UK page on ExtractPro:

Frequently asked questions

Does HSBC UK still issue a statement for an account I never use?

HSBC UK says “We will always issue an annual statement, even if your account is inactive.” Its page says nothing more about inactive accounts, so keep that annual statement with the rest.

Which option opens the statement in the HSBC UK app?

After you select the account, the page says “Tap 'View statements'”, and then “Select the month you want to view the statement for”.

Can I use the Excel (xls) download instead of the statement?

HSBC UK offers it “via your transactions list”, which is a different download from the statement. If what you hold is the statement PDF, upload that to ExtractPro: the workbook has the transactions one to a row, amounts as numbers and the balance when the statement shows it.
