How to download a Nationwide bank statement
Nationwide statements: the Documents tab, 36 months of PDF statements against 15 months of transactions, and the 5 and 6 years HMRC says to keep records.
Nationwide shows PDF statements from the last 36 months and transactions for the past 15 months. This guide follows the Documents route in the internet bank, sets those two periods beside what HMRC asks self-employed people and companies to keep, and notes the limit on midata.
Documents, then Statements
Nationwide’s help page on balances and statements gives the route in short lines: “Choose the Documents tab.” and “Choose Statements.” It states what can be saved, “You can download up to 36 months of your past statements as PDF files.”, and adds “If you want to download your statement, choose Download transactions and select the format you require.” The page does not name the formats. - 3Choose Statements.
- 4Download the statement you want from the last 36 months.
36 months of PDFs, 15 months of transactions
A second Nationwide page separates the two periods: “When you log in to the internet bank, you can view transactions for the past 15 months, and can view and download 36 months worth of PDF statements.” Source: Nationwide, statements help page, www.nationwide.co.uk/current-accounts/help/current-account-statements, accessed 10 October 2026.
Against what HMRC asks you to keep
HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) says of the self-employed: “You must keep your records for at least 5 years after the 31 January submission deadline of the relevant tax year.” For a limited company its page says: “You must keep records for 6 years from the end of the last company financial year they relate to”. Three years on screen sit against at least five for the self-employed and six for a company, and Nationwide’s page does not say how to get statements from the months before that window, so keep the PDFs you download. Midata is for some accounts only
Nationwide’s page on midata sets its reach: “Currently, you can only download midata for our current accounts.” It is a separate download from the statements above. Source: Nationwide, About midata, www.nationwide.co.uk/help/online-banking-help/about-midata, accessed 10 October 2026.
From the Nationwide PDF to Excel
Upload each Nationwide PDF as you downloaded it; a statement for every month is a file for every month. ExtractPro returns an .xlsx per statement in which the transactions are one to a row, with date, description and amount in separate columns, numeric amounts, and the balance when the statement shows it. If a file has a password, type it during the upload.
Once a workbook opens, read its closing balance against the statement’s and its rows against the transactions printed there. The Nationwide page on ExtractPro:
