How to download a Westpac NZ bank statement

Westpac NZ puts statements under Download statements in online banking and in the app. The steps, how long Westpac holds copies and what to do with the file.

Convert your Westpac NZ statement to Excel for free

Westpac New Zealand puts statement downloads on the Accounts screen of online banking, and the app has a route of its own. Below are the online banking steps, the app route, what Westpac says about the copies it holds and how to turn the file into Excel if it is a PDF.

Steps in online banking

Westpac’s help on downloading transactions and statements says: “In online banking: Choose the account you want from the Accounts screen… Select Download statements if you’re using a computer or laptop … Choose a statement from the list to view or download, or choose a date range with the From and To fields, then select View statements and choose a statement.” Source: Westpac NZ, How do I download transactions and statements?, www.westpac.co.nz/help/how-do-i-download-transactions-and-statements/, accessed 7 October 2026.

  1. 1In Westpac One online banking, choose the account you want from the Accounts screen.
  2. 2Select Download statements if you are using a computer or laptop.
  3. 3Choose a statement from the list, or choose a date range with the From and To fields and select View statements.
  4. 4Open the statement you need: if it is a PDF, that is the file to upload to ExtractPro.

The app route

On the phone the same page leads with: “Select the three dots next to the account name, then Download statements”. At the end of that route the page says: “Select the share button from the top right to print, save or share the statement.”

Copies held for at least seven years

The seven-year sentence comes from a different Westpac page, the one on getting a copy: “We hold copies of your statements electronically for at least seven years in case you need a copy.” The same page puts a price on it: “The normal fee for providing another copy of a statement is $5.” So seven years describes what Westpac holds on file, and what a further copy costs; the download list in online banking is a separate matter. Exporting transactions is a separate route

To export transactions you start elsewhere: “Log in to online banking (exporting transactions is not available in the app)”, then “Select Export transactions”, set the dates with From and To, and “Choose the file Format”.

If the Westpac statement is a PDF

When the statement you saved is a PDF, ExtractPro turns it into an .xlsx in which each transaction has a row, the date, description and amount sit in separate columns, the balance is included when the statement shows it, and the amounts are numbers.

To be sure nothing went missing, check the workbook’s closing balance and transaction count against the statement. Where Westpac NZ sits on ExtractPro:

Frequently asked questions

Can I download Westpac statements from the app?

Yes. Westpac has you select the three dots next to the account name and then Download statements. The part that is not available in the app is exporting transactions.

Does seven years of copies mean seven years of downloads?

Not necessarily. Westpac’s sentence is about copies it holds “in case you need a copy”; it does not describe the download list. Check the statements list in online banking for the period you need.

Can a Westpac NZ statement be turned into Excel?

It can when the file you saved is a PDF: upload it unchanged (a password goes in at upload) and download an .xlsx that lists each transaction on its own row.
