New Zealand bank statements to Excel
ANZ NZ, BNZ, ASB and five more New Zealand banks describe their bank statements in their own words. Here they are, with the 8 that have a page on ExtractPro.
A bank statement from a New Zealand bank goes into ExtractPro as a PDF and leaves as an Excel workbook (.xlsx): a row for every transaction, date, description and amount in their own columns, amounts that Excel can total and, when the statement shows it, a balance column. Below, bank by bank, is what each one says about its statements on its own website, followed by links to the 8 New Zealand banks with a page on ExtractPro.
What each bank says about its statements
In the bank’s own words:
- ANZ NZ: its guide says you can “see, download, email, and print up to seven years of statements and advice in goMoney and Internet Banking”, and the video on that page describes “a PDF version of the account statement”.
- BNZ: in Internet Banking, “To save the statement, click on Download.” For business accounts, its page adds: “To find and download a PDF copy of a statement, go to the ‘Accounts’ tab of Internet Banking for Business”. If the statement you save from Internet Banking is a PDF, that is the file to upload.
- ASB: in the Document Centre of FastNet Classic, “Your statements are in .pdf format, so are easy to download if you need to.”
- Westpac NZ: in online banking you “Select Download statements if you’re using a computer or laptop”, and “We hold copies of your statements electronically for at least seven years in case you need a copy.”
- Kiwibank: “Click 'Download' for each statement and it'll download as a PDF.” and “To view statements older than 12 months, click 'Show All'.”
- TSB: “Your statement will open in a pdf to view”, and “Review up to 12 months of past statements.”
- Co-operative Bank: “You can view and download PDF Statements and recent transactions lists via Internet Banking or our mobile app.” Beyond a year: “If you need more than 12 months of statements, they are available on Internet Banking.”
- SBS Bank: in internet banking, “select ‘estatements’ at the top and then ‘view estatements’ from the dropdown list.” Its help says “You’ll need to have a PDF Reader installed on your computer or device.”

The PDF is named by ANZ NZ (in its video), ASB, BNZ (for business accounts), Kiwibank, TSB and the Co-operative Bank. With BNZ for personal accounts, Westpac NZ or SBS Bank, the PDF is the file to upload if that is what you saved. For ANZ NZ, ASB, Westpac NZ and Kiwibank there are also guides that walk through the download in order.
Where a bank’s export ends and a statement carries on
The banks that export transactions say how far the export reaches. Kiwibank’s business internet banking says: “Exports are limited to two years. To view older transactions, use your statements.” BNZ, on its page about saving transaction history, covers “up to 3 years of previous transactions”. ASB: “You can export up to 10,000 transactions per file download.” When a period falls outside a window like these, or a client has sent only the statement, the statement PDF is what you convert. Follow a name to see that bank’s own page, with the questions people ask about it.
From the statement to a spreadsheet
Whichever bank issued it, the route is the same, and it works for a statement that came from internet banking, an app, an email or a client:
- 1Upload the statement PDF unchanged. A password, if there is one, is typed in at upload and the file opens in your browser.
- 2ExtractPro reads the transactions and sets them out in a table, one for each row.
- 3Download the workbook (.xlsx) with date, description and amount, the balance included when the statement shows it, and amounts as numbers. The custom format can give you a CSV instead.
If the file is going into Xero, the Xero guide shows which custom format options to select. Before you reconcile, check two things: the last balance in the workbook against the statement, and the number of rows against the transactions printed on it.

Frequently asked questions
Which New Zealand banks can I find on ExtractPro?
Eight, one page each: ANZ NZ, BNZ, ASB, Westpac NZ, Kiwibank, TSB, Co-operative Bank and SBS Bank. On every page you find the bank’s own wording about its statements.
Can I convert a statement that was emailed to me?
Yes, as long as it is a PDF: upload it as it stands and it comes back as Excel. ANZ’s guide, for one, says you can “see, download, email, and print” statements.
Can I try it before paying?
No card is needed to start. The Free plan includes 2 conversions per month, enough to try a statement from ANZ NZ, ASB or any other bank in the list before you pick a paid plan.
