How do you convert your CommBank bank statement to Excel?

ExtractPro turns a CommBank bank statement PDF into an Excel file (.xlsx) with one transaction per row, showing the date, description and amount (and the balance, when the statement shows it), and with every amount stored as a number. In NetBank, CommBank arranges statements by financial year and offers them as a PDF download, one at a time or all the statements for that year at once; the CommBank app has its own route under Manage and View statement. For transactions, CommBank’s page on the new NetBank says “You can continue to export transactions from NetBank in CSV format.” CommBank is at commbank.com.au.

FAQ

About CommBank statements

01

Can ExtractPro read the PDF that NetBank downloads?

Yes. The statement PDF you get from CommBank NetBank goes into ExtractPro as it is and comes back as a spreadsheet, with a row for each transaction and amounts you can add up.

02

How far back do CommBank statements go compared with the transaction list?

Seven years for statements against two for the transaction list. CommBank’s NetBank support page puts it this way: “View up to 2 years' worth of transaction details from the transactions page or up to 7 years by going through your past statements.” Older CommBank transactions, then, sit in the statements.

03

Can I still see CommBank statements after closing the account?

For a while, yes. CommBank’s online statements page says: “Closed an account? Up to 2 years after successfully closing your account, you'll still be able to access statements issued up to 7 years ago.”

How do I convert a CommBank bank statement to Excel?

To convert a CommBank bank statement to Excel, download the statement PDF from NetBank and upload it to ExtractPro: you get back an .xlsx with one transaction per row, the date, description and amount in separate columns (and the balance, when the statement shows it), and every amount stored as a number. CommBank’s guide to the new NetBank groups statements by financial year and ends with “Select Download (PDF)”, so a whole year of statements can be saved in one go. CommBank’s support pages say online statements “are kept for up to 7 years”, while the transactions page shows 2 years of detail; for anything older, the statement PDF is the record to convert.
