How to download an ICBC (Asia) bank statement

ICBC (Asia) e-Statements in Internet Banking: the Account Services route, the 84 months the app filters through, and the 12-month limit on each filter.

ICBC (Asia) calls its statements e-Statements and puts them in Internet Banking, with a separate route in the app. The sections below give both, explain the filter limit that the bank mentions and show how the PDF becomes an Excel file.

The Internet Banking route

The bank’s page on how to view an e-Statement and e-Advice starts here: “Step 1: Logon to Internet Banking via https://www.icbcasia.com Step 2: Select [Account Services] → [e-Statement] → [View e-Statement]”. 1. 1Log on to Internet Banking via icbcasia.com.
  2. 2Select Account Services, then e-Statement, then View e-Statement.
  3. 3ICBC (Asia) says e-Statements are in PDF: that PDF is the file to upload to ExtractPro.

The format

The page names the file type directly: “e-Statements are in Portable Data Format (PDF)”. That is the sentence behind the third step above.

In the app, and the 12-month limit

For the app, the bank tells you to select “more” in order to “filter through e-Statements generated within the last 84 months”. A note follows: “(Note: filter time periods are limited to be set to at most 12 months)”. The limit applies to the window you set, so a stretch longer than twelve months takes more than one filter. From the ICBC (Asia) PDF to Excel

Give ExtractPro the PDF just as it came from Internet Banking. The workbook you download has one transaction per row, the date, description and amount apart in their own columns, the balance when the e-Statement shows it, and numbers in the amount column.

If you filtered several windows, upload each file and keep the periods in a list, so that you can check the closing balance of every workbook against its e-Statement. ICBC (Asia) on ExtractPro:

Frequently asked questions

Which menus lead to an ICBC (Asia) e-Statement in Internet Banking?

Account Services, then e-Statement, then View e-Statement, the order the bank gives in square brackets on its page.

Does the 12-month note cap how far back I can look?

No, it caps the window you set at one time. The app filters “within the last 84 months”, and each filter can cover at most 12 months of that.

I saved an ICBC (Asia) e-Statement. What is next?

Upload the PDF unchanged. A password, if the file has one, is typed during the upload, and the .xlsx you download lists each transaction on its own row.
